Judging an industry is not the same as judging a worker. A choice is not a person and so doesn’t garner automatic respect, either. If a woman stays with her abuser, is that also a feminist choice just because a woman made that choice? Is feminism about validating individuals, or critically examining a system to truly liberate all women?
Where did you get the idea that only someone inside an industry, profiting from it possibly with some degree of cognitive dissonance, can decide whether something meets the criteria of having power or not? Seems “empowerment” is feel good pap, as is the idea that enacting someone else’s fantasy for money (and only money) is taking control of one’s sexuality — it’s the opposite. If this is empowerment, I guess women have been empowered by men since the dawn of time.
